National History Day (NHD) is an annual contest that engages students nationwide in the extensive research of a historical topic. Students work exhaustively in both exploring history and creating a product that demonstrates mastery of their topic. Each year, the NHD organization identifies a theme for that year's student competition. This year's theme is"Debate and Diplomacy: Successes, Failures and Consequences."  Students choose any topic within this theme and design a product that fits into one of the following categories: paper, performance, documentary, exhibit, or website. Learn more about the five categories by clicking here. Students then compete at the local and possibly national levels. Students who participate in this project have shown improvement in critical thinking, writing, research, and 21st century college- and career-ready skills. They have shown growth in their ability to analyze and synthesize information, collaborate with peers, and manage their time.
